    Hey Retroblox team!

Thanks for the update, sorry to hear about the issues of the name change, but glad to see you guys are able to bounce back from that and get back on track. It’s also exciting to hear that you guys were able to raise some capital and get the project moving. I’m sure Kickstart launch time will be pretty exciting!

While it’s a tad disappointing to see things go quiet, I’m pretty sure the guys working on it are knee deep working on the Kickstarter, which is due to kick off in April. I’d imagine there’s a surprise announcement or two for when the project officially kicks off.

Funny you mention about that, there are a small handful of CRT models with HDMI, I believe the Sony Trinitron Wega series had HDMI. It was insane how much they weigh. I’m not kidding, up to like 175lb for the 36inch size.

but great post Brian Ciesicki, a great read. Thanks for sharing!

From what the admins have said, there’s a possibility of another news piece being released in March. I’d imagine their spending most of their time currently working on Kickstarter, getting it ready for the April kick off.

When it comes to our beloved Retro systems, the preference of taste is incredibly vast. I know several diehards who had all their systems RGB modded, then hook up to a Sony BVM monitor. A lot of people still wont touch HDMI and modern LED tvs when it comes to their older game consoles.

Which there’s nothing wrong with that, its all about…[Read more]

Ok, I’ll do my best to not ramble on so long, spare you from a giant wall of text, but give a little back story to why I’m interested and loved to hear what draws you to the Retroblox.
Now I’d imagine most people currently visiting the forums are a lot like me. A bit seasoned now, no gray hairs yet but grew up with the original cartridge systems.…[Read more]

While I do think, support for PS2 would be a great nice to have. I can see to do so would be filled with a lot of catches. For example, the Retroblox hardware would have to be improved to run the PS2 hardware at 1080p/60fps thus raising the price. Also, there would still be loads of legal issues because several gaming studios are still porting…[Read more]

SegaFan16 – i’m definitely down for a good traditional arcade stick. I won’t lie, I’m a massive hori fan. It’s pretty much the only brand I’d trust.

If, down the road, Retroblox decided to make their own arcade stick that you could use with the system. I’d preferer to keep it beautifully simple and clean. Something along the lines of NEO GEO AES…[Read more]

You are in luck. This is what a RetroBlox admin had to say about packaging:

The modules will be packaged in lovely, well protected boxes that should fit nicely in your bookshelf alongside your games. We will reveal images of the packaging during the Kickstarter campaign.

So, from what I read on the news section. The Retroblox will only support HDMI out. Now obviously, this is all pre-Kickstarter state. Things could change before the official product releases. But dont hold me to that. I would just plan on it being HDMI only. Sadly, I share your pain with using light guns. So many great shooters that unfortunately,…[Read more]

  • It really depends. I would of never imagined the NES mini to be successful as it was. A device that cost $60 for a short list of Roms, that really was no better (in my opinion) than a Raspberry Pi.

And yet people went nuts for it.

It’s all about pricing and support.

  • Zues replied to the topic Might a dumb question, but.. in the forum GENERAL 4 months, 1 week ago ·

No, that’s a fair question. I haven’t seen any elemental block that offers PS1 controller ports. I’ve only seen the wireless controller in action to play the CD based games.

Hey, here’s a direct quote from the news section about hyrbid emulation and performance.

Hybrid Emulation is unique in that it requires software emulators to function at a much lower level than the ones you can simply download for your PC, Phone or RetroPie / RetroArch / LibRetro box. RetroBlox’s proprietary RBXOS and Richter UI environment are b…

  • Zues replied to the topic Can it run Roms in the forum GENERAL 4 months, 1 week ago ·

I think a lot of it depends on the hybrid emulation that the staff has mentioned about. It supposedly reads some data from the carts. Using SNES as example, some games like Starfox use a special chip. SP-1 or something like that, that allows more advanced graphics. Because of this, emulation on those titles can be off/glitchy.

    The hybrid…[Read more]

  • Zues replied to the topic Please include Neo Geo! in the forum SNK 4 months, 1 week ago ·

Oh, that would be amazing if they offered  NEO GEO AES & NEO GEO CD support.

    Day one, no question.

  • Zues replied to the topic Can it run Roms in the forum GENERAL 4 months, 1 week ago ·

To my knowledge (could be wrong), out of the box, the Retroblox will not support Roms. You will have to own a physical copy of the game. However, I’m willing to bet that the Retroblox would support 3rd party devices such as the Everdrive.

Btw, don’t know if you knew, the Retroblox does not support N64 or PS2 games. Just letting you know.

  • Zues replied to the topic Online capabilities? in the forum GENERAL 4 months, 1 week ago ·

If I stand correct, Retroblox will have Twitch built in and other possible video options. I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of voice chat, but online multiplayer, that I don’t know. 99.9% of these games don’t offer online play anyways.

  • Zues replied to the topic 4K support in the forum GENERAL 4 months, 1 week ago ·

Personally, I think it’s a miracle that we are even able to upscale to 1080p and have the image look razor sharp. Many of these consoles are only 240p at 4:3 ratio.

I’d be perfectly happy with 1080p and let the TV handle the 4K scaling.

  • Zues replied to the topic HDMI Output? in the forum GENERAL 4 months, 1 week ago ·

From what I understand, it will not upscale to 4K. It currently supports 1080p.

Which is perfectly understandable. Currently, there are few 4K upscalers available. Mostly found in TV’s or AV receivers. Let alone good ones.

Now if you own a 4K tv, that doesn’t mean it’s going to look awful on it. All modern TV sets have upscaling and loads of o…[Read more]
